ABOUT
Nursing Informatics Competency Assessment (NICA)
Care delivery is being impacted by the accelerated adoption of the Electronic Health Records across multiple settings. Technical proficiency and informatics competency for both nursing leaders and bedside nurses are required for today’s professional nurse to collaborate and lead in a highly dynamic and technology dominant healthcare delivery setting. To participate as a full practice partner, registered nurses must attain knowledge of informatics competencies related to their clinical roles and responsibilities. Nursing informatics and HIT knowledge have become expected core competencies of professional practice
NICA-Nurse Leader (NL) and NICA-Registered Nurse (RN)
Two assessment tools have been developed and validated to identify and build nursing informatics skills and knowledge -- NICA-NL and NICA-RN. Each tool identifies the unique informatics competencies necessary at the leadership and bedside levels within the current healthcare environment.
